Current status: Correspondence has been received from the Minister for Transport and Economy and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, so the committee will ask the petitioners if they’re happy with what has been done.
Welsh Canoeing Association

The Petitioners are to urging the Welsh Assembly Government to ‘consider and implement a Bill to benefit Wales that would enshrine access rights and responsibilities for the public to and along natural resources in the same way that the Scottish Land Reform Act encourages co-operative use of the outdoors for healthy, low impact recreation. This bill must provide and permit access to and along non-tidal water in the face of the massive lack of legal clarity and restrictions that exist at present, which act as a barrier to sport and recreation and the promotion of Wales as a place to visit for Adventure Tourism.’ For more information, click here.
Current status: Information has been received from the Sustainability Committee regarding their inquiry into inland waters in Wales. It was decided that nothing further could be done, so the petition has been formally closed.
Parking in Heath and Birchgrove

The petitioners are calling on the Welsh Assembly Government to: 1) Advise the Cardiff and Vale NHS trust to: provide sufficient parking on site for its staff and visitors by seeking suitable areas for hospital parking on site and on land such as the derelict area north of the allotments opposite Heath Hospital on the other side of Eastern Avenue, decentralise some of the services already on the Heath site and cease selling hospital land in Cardiff and the surrounding area for housing; 2) Recommend Cardiff County Council to: refuse planning permission for further development on the Heath Hospital site unless a unit is removed from the site which has an equal traffic impact, discourage multi-occupation development in the area and introduce limited time parking in streets within walking distance of Heath hospital; and 3) consider within the Assembly the introduction of a system which would allow local groups to appeal to the Assembly when the council gives planning permission for a development which residents consider will exacerbate the problem of parking in the area. Current status: Correspondence has been received by the petitioners and the Local Health Board, which as held a review of the Sustainable Travel Plan. A further letter will be sent to the LHB to ask about the current situation and the work that has been done with Cardiff City Council, in order to update the petitioners.
E-petition to investigate the feasibility of introducing a direct train service between Ebbw Vale and Newport

Current status: The Minister for Transport and Economy has said that the necessary infrastructure work will be completed later this year, so the petition has been closed officially.
Abolish the Severn Bridge Tolls

The petitioners call upon the National Assembly for Wales to urge the UK Government in Westminster to do everything in its power to abolish the two Severn Bridge tolls. For more information, click here.
Current status: A response from the Minister for Economy and Transport noted that he is considering undertaking a study of the economic impact of the tolls. The committee will be in further contact with him again to ask what discussions he has had with the Secretary of State for Transport on the matter.
The Glamorganshire Canal

We call upon the National Assembly of Wales to support the creation of a Glamorganshire Canal historical trail from Merthyr to Cardiff Bay, indicating the major locations en route and other historical sites in proximity to the Canal e.g. Hamadryad Hospital Ship, as a means of encouraging interest in the regional history, tourism and providing an interesting and challenging walking and cycling trail. Current status: Further information has been received from the Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing, and Minister for Heritage. The committee will contact Rhondda Cynon Taf and Cardiff Councils to ask for further details on the matter.
Access Road in Llanmaes

The petitioners, residents of Llanmaes, Millands Park, and the surrounding rural areas object to:
- The proposed new northern access road for the proposed Defence Technical College
- The proposed new Tremains Farm housing estate
Objections to the above are for the following reasons:
- it involves the destruction of green field site when brown field sites are available
- it will create considerable noise, light and dust pollution
- it will incur substantial ecological damage.

Opposing RAF St Athan Northern Access Road (Boverton residents)

The petitioners call upon the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to amend its plans for the proposed Defence Technical Academy at St Athan so that no northern access road is constructed and that the green field sites at Tremain's Farm, Picketston and Eglwys Brewis are preserved. This would take into account the views of 95% of the 395 individuals consulted in Boverton. For more information, click here.
Current Status: The committee will contact the Minister for Economy and Transport to ask when a decision will be made regarding the compulsory purchase order, as well as the Ministry of Defence to ask when they envisage a decision regarding the defence training college.
Local Authority Register of Road Safety Schemes

The petitioners call upon the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to improve Public Safety by requiring Local Authorities to publish a regularly updated waiting list of road safety schemes for which they are responsible. These lists should include timescales for the completion of schemes to give residents confidence that their safety concerns are being considered by local authorities. Current status: Although a response has been received by the Minister for Economy and Transport, the committee will contact the Minister again to clarify what the petitioners seek in the petition.
Improved access to public transport for people with disabilities

The petitioners believe that public transport should be available for people with disabilities. We therefore call upon the Welsh Assembly Government, to bring forward an action plan to make public transport in Wales accessible for all. For more information, click here.
Current status: Correspondence has been received from Arriva Trains Wales and the Equality of Opportunity Committee. The committee will try to ensure that the petitioners will be able to give evidence to the Equality of Opportunity Committee’s inquiry.
Motion for Women – Sustrans
Open since 01/02/10
The petitioners want to be able to choose to cycle much more. To do this we need to feel safe when we cycle.
They demand that governments prioritise the creation of environments that encourage and support cycling, this must include the National Assembly for Wales urging Welsh Government to make this a priority. For more information, click here.
Current status: A response from the Minister for Economy and Transport noted that an annual report into walking and cycling will soon be published, and action may be taken after that.
