UK Politics
Although we have had devolution since 1999 Wales is still part of the United Kingdom and many of the key decisions that affect our lives are made by the UK Parliament. This section of the website provides information about how the UK Parliament works.
The relationship between the UK Parliament and the UK Government is equivalent to the relationship between the National Assembly for Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government. Parliament is the legislature and the UK Government is the Executive.
The UK Parliament is made up of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The party (or parties) with the largest majority in the Commons following a general election form the Government.
Wales is made up of 40 constituencies and each constituency elects one Member of Parliament. To find out who your MP is click here.
For all organisations in Wales who wish to influence decision makers it is important not to forget about UK Politics. This is partly because there are a number of key policy areas that are not devolved to Wales and also because the UK Parliament still plays a key role in giving law - making powers to Wales.
The UK Parliament’s own website provides a range of useful information and resources about both Houses of Parliament and UK legislation. The UK Parliament also has an outreach service which provides information to organisations who wish to know more about Parliament’s work. Click here to visit the Wales outreach team pages.
