Aims:
To give participants an understanding of how local government works and what opportunities exist to engage with and influence decisions, policies and services.
Content:
This is an introductory course to help people to understand how local government is structured, what it does and to explain some of the key ways for the third sector to engage with and influence local government. You will find out more about why local councils do things differently across Wales; the importance of different plans, strategies and partnerships; what a compact is; what Local Service Boards do and the importance of the scrutiny function.
Learning outcomes:
By attending this course you will be able to ….
• understand how local government works and the key routes to influencing local council policies and services;
• improve your knowledge and understanding of the importance and impact of engaging with the scrutiny function;
• understand the importance of your local County Voluntary Council.

This is an introductory course aimed at people working in the third sector who need to engage with their local authorities.
